7 Ideas to Spice Up The Year
It’s a New Year. It’s a New Day.
This time of year is a hard start to a better life for many people. Life can throw so many curveballs that you don’t realize you’re not near your goals. Physical health changes like working out and eating better are common resolutions for most folk. Getting out more and seeking life experiences are close behind. Well, your sexual health told me to tell you that it needs some love, too!
Sexual health is a silent partner at your mental and physical health board meeting. Decisions can be made or vetoed by the functionality of our sexual health based on how well we see ourselves and our performance. Let’s build a wellness plan that addresses your sexual health. Here are seven kinky ideas you can incorporate into your resolution list to explicitly feed your sexual health.
Incorporate the Senses
The senses play a significant part in the arousal segment of the sexual response cycle. The way you see, smell, taste, hear, and touch all create electrical experiences in the brain. The brain decides if we really enjoy this experience and moves blood into the designated areas to signal arousal. Although often neglected, the senses play such an importantrole in our sexuality.
A glimpse of skin, a familiar scent, and the ripples in fishnet are all senses we can rely on. Lean into the senses you don’t often use for arousal. Listen to erotica, or ask your partner to talk you through it. Be bold and wear an outfit that makes you feel sexy, or try different fabrics against your skin. Incorporate those senses into the experience to increase arousal and activate the pleasure sensors.
Manifest
Manifest, fantasize, whatever you want to call it. Do it. Dream of what the perfect sexual experience would feel, sound, and taste like? Where would it be, would there be music, what are you wearing? Give yourself to the fantasy and build upon it like a movie script. Make changes as you change and open yourself up to the concept of intentional pleasure. Creating this experience gives you a blueprint of what you have not done and other things you can build on.
Be Adventurous
“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” ― Joseph Campbell
Fear can change how we experience the world. Being adventurous requires you to be brave. There are kinky experiences that people turn their noses up to that they have never experienced. Be open to trying new things and think about it before you check it off the list.
Find Your Kink
One thing I know for sure is that everyone has a kink. It can be feet, body odor, body hair, thick thighs, or whatever. Everyone has at least one. If you haven’t found yours, add that to your resolution list. Most of us likely have more than one. Explore new kinks and see if something piques your interest. There are so many new things out there to discover.
Role Play
I am a heavy proponent of foreplay. I am of the unserious generation; therefore, play is a crucial part of my life. Getting into character is so enthralling. Role play is an opportunity to become the nastiest version of yourself without feeling guilty. It is just acting, and you are a really good actor. 😈
Be Intentional
It is a belief that sexual health is an inherent right. It’s something that magically happens to you if you are the chosen one, and all you have to do is wait for the moment. Yeah, that may be the experience sometimes, but those can be dependent on other people’s contributions. Practice being intentional about your sexual health and your joy. Set aside time for you to give your mind and body the stimulants it likes.
Care For Your Body
Care for your body in the ways that make you feel good. Stretch in the mornings, do your skincare routine, masturbate…whatever gets that energy pumping for you. Your self-care is not automatic, it must be a choice. This is especially true for mothers. You must save some of your energy for yourself and your care.
The new year is also a good time to make those wellness appointments. Get your reproductive organs a checkup and make a dentist appointment. Teeth are a silent casualty of depression or age-related changes. If you have been neglecting your medical care, reprioritize yourself.
You Are Your Resolution
You are an important part of this ecosystem. Your presence is needed, and your perspective is appreciated. It is okay to spend some of your energy on you. Making yourself a priority does not mean you will demote your other responsibilities. It means you will become one of those responsibilities. You deserve a happy life, and you deserve to be satisfied.
