Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is a short course of HIV medicines taken very soon after a possible exposure to HIV to prevent the virus from taking hold in your body. PEP is critical in the case of accidental exposure to the virus. If taken within 72 hours (3 days), the antiretroviral medication can stop HIV in its tracks. Immediate attention ensures the best chance of combating the virus, so time is of the essence. You can receive help with the cost you accrue from exposure, no matter how you contracted it. Do not be ashamed to protect yourself in the event of IV drug use or sexual assault. There is help out there every step of the way to recovery.
