STI Index Human Papillomavirus

This week’s course is a new addition to our STI index, where we dissect the human papillomavirus or HPV. Our STI classes cover symptoms and treatment options and provide tips to lower the risk of infection. Almost everyone who is sexually active will contract HPV in their lifetimes with no symptoms or threat of cancer. Human papillomavirus is the most commonly transmitted sexual infection.

The body’s immune system clears most strains of HPV without medical treatment. Six strands of HPV can cause cancer if not healed, including anal, vaginal, penile, vulvar, cervical, and oropharyngeal cancer. 90% of human papillomavirus cases clear up on their own.
